Vox Grata Joins ALIAS for February 6 Concert

The Vox Grata Women’s Choir is pleased to join ALIAS Chamber Ensemble at a concert celebrating the legacy of American immigrant composers.  Founder and Artistic Director Jeanette MacCallum and Associate Conductor Susan Kelly will conduct Vox Grata performing Ave Generosa (women’s choir a cappella) and Tundra (women’s choir and instrumental quintet) by Ola Gjeilo.

The concert, scheduled for Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 7:30 PM in Ingram Hall at Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music, will also feature selections from Seven Tunes Heard in China for violincello by Bright Sheng, Estro Poetico Harmonico for string quartet and recorder quartet by Yotam Haber, Refugee Blues by Mohammed Fairouz, and Valse for String Quartet by Bela Bartok.  The evening will include a reception featuring desserts made by local immigrant business owners, where guests will join ALIAS musicians in celebrating the retirement of Artistic Director Zeneba Bowers.

Directed by Zeneba Bowers, ALIAS Chamber Ensemble brings educational, informative and entertaining chamber music programs to schools that typically receive little to no arts education funding. ALIAS partners with Whitsitt Elementary and Freedom School as well as  the Nashville Ballet to bring to Nashville area schools new programming that combines chamber music with improvisatory dance.The concert proceeds support these community outreach efforts.
