Emerging Conductors

The Vox Grata Conducting Apprenticeship Program provides gifted, developing conductors with learning experiences which complement their education in traditional degree programs.

This is a unique and exciting, one-year opportunity to work alongside the conducting mentors with podium time during both rehearsals and concerts. The Conducting Apprenticeship reflects the high value Vox Grata places upon the recognition of emerging conductors.

Artistic Responsibilities of the Apprentice include conducting full choir and sectional rehearsals as assigned, leading warm-ups, assisting with score markings and seating arrangements, observing auditions, assisting with concert production and other duties as needed. When not otherwise assigned, the apprentice may sing with the choir.

Other Responsibilities of the Apprentice include various administrative duties as required by the Business Manager including communication with singers, instrumentalists, assisting with concert promotion, concert program notes, etc. Attendance at board meetings will educate the individual on matters of long-range artistic and organizational planning, fundraising, grant initiatives and marketing.

Conducting Mentors Jeanette MacCallum and Susan Kelly will provide artistic guidance to the Apprentice through regular mentorship sessions during which learning goals will be established and progress reviewed.

Application Deadline: July 1, 2022

Appointment Dates: Mid-August 2022 through May 2023, with possible extension

Remuneration: The annual stipend for the Apprenticeship is $1,000. The Apprentice should expect to work an average of 3 to 4 hours per week and must be available on Monday nights throughout their appointment. A full calendar of performances will be provided.
