About Vox Grata
Artistic programming for each Vox Grata concert is inspired by the work of the corresponding partner organization, allowing for the presentation of meaningful, relevant art.
This inspires donations for beneficiaries and raises awareness for important local causes. Through thematic concert programs, the choir has explored issues ranging from human trafficking to welcoming immigrants into our communities.
Our concert “Advice to a Young Girl” benefitting Mother to Mother included composer Moira Smiley’s “I Have a Voice,” a song of female empowerment. The text emphasizes listening carefully to one’s inner voice.
The beneficiary of our concert “Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor” was Sew for Hope, a local organization that teaches sewing skills to immigrant and refugee women seeking employment skills. The program included composer Joan Szymko’s “Ffe Mwe, Mwe Ffe,” (“They are Us and We are Them”), an anthem of welcome and unity.
