There are wounds in our communities that are difficult to name, and stories that too often remain hidden behind silence, stigma, and misunderstanding.

Substance use disorder is one of them.

Through the Door is a groundbreaking new choral work that enters that difficult landscape not to judge, simplify or explain away, but to listen.

Through the unique power of the human voice, Through the Door boldly seeks to illuminate the many dimensions of substance use disorder: the longing and the loss, the isolation and the bonds of family, the devastation, and the possibility of recovery. It gives musical form to experiences that are often spoken about in statistics and headlines but rarely heard in their full human complexity.

This work asks us to listen differently – to those who suffer, those who love them, those who have been lost, and those who walk toward recovery. It seeks to replace distance with compassion and judgment with understanding.

Above all, Through the Door is an act of hope. It is a work about what it means to be human, to struggle, to love, to lose, to forgive, to heal – and to discover that none of us has to suffer alone.
